NameFlow has one search box, on the home page. It understands three kinds of input, and you never have to pick a mode.
Three ways to search
1. A single name
Type a name without an extension:
chillmail
NameFlow checks that exact name on popular extensions such as .com, .io, .ai, .app and .dev, and shows each one at the top of the results with its availability, first-year price and renewal price. These exact-match results always appear, taken or not, so you get a straight answer about the name you asked for.
Below them you will also see related AI-generated names that were found to be available, in case your exact name is taken everywhere.
2. A full domain
Type the name with the extension you want:
chillmail.io
That exact domain is checked first and pinned to the top. This is the quickest way to answer "is this specific domain free?"
3. A description of your idea
Describe what you are building in plain English:
a weekly newsletter about budget travel in Japan
NameFlow's AI (Google Gemini) writes a batch of short, brandable names, NameFlow checks which ones are really available, and you see the available ones with prices, cheapest first. Read Using AI Name Suggestions for tips on writing a good description.
What NameFlow does with your query
- Exact names first. If your query looks like a single name or domain, those exact domains are added to the check list.
- AI ideas. Your query is sent to the AI, which returns a list of name ideas.
- Quick pre-check. Names that already have nameservers in public DNS are almost certainly registered, so they are skipped before the full check.
- Live availability check. The remaining domains are checked with the registrar's live availability service.
- Prices. Each result is priced from NameFlow's price list, which refreshes from the registrar about every 30 minutes.
If the AI is temporarily unavailable, the search box falls back to a plain lookup that checks your name on NameFlow's list of 26 popular extensions, so a name search always gets an answer.
Reading the results
Each result card shows the domain, whether it is available, and two prices:
- First year: what you would pay to register it today
- Renewal: what each following year costs
A PROMO badge means the first year is discounted and renewals are at the regular, higher price. Domains with registration rules (for example, a local address requirement) show a notice; hover or tap it for a summary.
Prices load a moment after the names appear. Grey placeholders mean the price is still being fetched.
Search tips
Keep exact-name searches simple. Letters, numbers and hyphens only. Spaces and symbols are removed, and a name cannot start or end with a hyphen. Names must be 2 to 63 characters.
Use descriptions for ideas, names for checks. If you already know what you want, type the name. If you are brainstorming, describe the project and let the AI do the brainstorming.
Try variations when your name is taken:
| Pattern | Example |
|---|---|
| Add a verb | getchillmail, trychillmail |
| Add a suffix | chillmailhq, chillmailapp |
| Different extension | chillmail.dev, chillmail.app |
| Shorter or merged form | chilmail, chillm |
Browse every extension. The home page focuses on popular extensions. To compare all {{TLD_COUNT_DISPLAY}} extensions, use the TLD directory.
Limits
Searches that use the AI are limited per IP address (about 5 per minute and 30 per day). Price lookups have their own limit per 15 minutes. If you hit a limit, NameFlow tells you how long to wait. See Rate limits.
